Brownwood Community

Howard Payne University is located in Brownwood, Texas, about 120 miles southwest of Dallas/Fort Worth, 130 miles northwest of Austin and 190 miles northwest of San Antonio. Located on the northern edge of the Texas Hill Country, Brownwood has a population of approximately 20,000 residents, including HPU’s student body. One of the most popular recreational areas for HPU students is Lake Brownwood, just a short drive from the campus.

Since 1889, Howard Payne University and Brown County have worked together to provide quality undergraduate education.

Local businesses, organizations and individuals support the university in a variety of ways, whether it’s offering employment for HPU students, attending campus activities or providing financial support to the university.

Each year, HPU hosts more than 90 sporting events and numerous concerts, recitals and theatre productions which are supported by the local community.

A number of HPU students, faculty and staff serve in the community through civic and church activities. HPU also hosts a variety of local, regional and state events throughout the year.
